Deeply rooted in the camping world since 1949
Foreword from the first camping guide, 1950
‘Camping, as a factor in modern national and international tourism, is an increasingly prevalent form of holiday and leisure activity.
The hectic pace of life in major cities and the demands of work call for a balance. The desire to escape the daily rush can be summed up in a single phrase: back to nature!
'That’s the beauty of camping!'
The resurgence of camping
It seems that travellers’ longings have changed little since 1950. The needs of that time – namely the desire for greater freedom, holidays close to nature and an escape from everyday life – still correspond exactly to those of 1950, even in 2024.
Perhaps 20 years ago, the situation would have been different, when travelling by plane to distant and exotic countries and discovering foreign cultures was all the rage, whilst camping tended to take a back seat.
But now, 75 years later, we are moving closer to nature once again. Driven by people’s longing for peace, nature and freedom, camping has re-established itself as a popular form of travel. In the midst of the modern era, we appreciate the simplicity and connection with nature, just as we did many decades ago.
